Marked downstream from the ancient Via Clodia, which connected southern Etruria to Rome, the Castello di Velona was built as a medieval fortress in the eleventh century. In the Renaissance, a period in which it is possible to trace the Main Loggia, the Castle was transformed into a residential villa; the “Velona” is represented in the geographic maps frescoed in the Vatican by the famous cosmographer, geographer and mathematician from Perugia Ignazio Danti. In 1997 it rose from ruin to luxurious relais, thanks to the renovation carried out respecting the original structure of the dwelling. The renovation and its expansion have delivered the Castle of Velona Resort, Thermal SPA & Winery to the world public in 2003. The Resort is just 2 km from the Sant’Antimo Abbey, 12 km from Montalcino and a 30-minute drive from Siena.

Castello Di Velona, in addition to a 1,500 mq wellness center, has a “Settimo Senso” gourmet restaurant with Tuscan specialties and its own production of wines and extra virgin olive oil. The restaurant has 120 seats and a panoramic terrace overlooking the Val d’Orcia. From here, at sunset you can enjoy a unique panorama that is a natural setting and romantic dinners and special events.

The Chef, Mirko Caldino, proposes a sensory journey through a refined cuisine, but inspired by the Tuscan culinary tradition, evoking with mastery and creativity the ancient flavors of this land. Here you experience complete sensory emotions, immersed in the silence and romanticism of the landscape, tasting the fine wines and olive oil produced by the Castello farm and savoring the great specialties of the Tuscan regional tradition and of the Italian Mediterranean cuisine, which it combines creative research with respect for the seasonality and genuineness of the ingredients.

The OLISPA is the enchanting oasis of pure relaxation that is located inside and that extends over a surface of 1500 square meters where dominates the travertine, material of the prestigious Tuscan tradition and offers a linear and refined environment.
