Dear friends, our next stop in our discovery journey of Italy’s top wedding venues is taking us to one of the most incredible and surprising locations in the Country, one that would certainly add a unique touch of magic to your wedding. This week, I am following my heart down to one of our major islands, to explore the top 5 wedding venues in Sicily.
This land is rich in tradition and colour, but what will stick in your memory are the inebriating scents of the local cuisine and the fragrant air of this lush region. Smell is, after all, the most powerful sense when it comes to conjuring up memories and past experiences of people and places. Scents are unexpected memories floating towards us through the air. And how I love the smells of food cooking, as they fill the air around me. Today, as I was walking home, I felt drawn by the, fragrant, intense and mouth-watering smell coming from a traditional Sicilian trattoria, a small and charming establishment that made my mind drift away to that stunning region and inspired me to tell you about the best wedding venues in Sicily, so that my twin passions for travelling and wedding planning could come together once more in a blogpost.
A Sicilian wedding is likely to be a quintessentially traditional one. I told you about it in a past article (In Touch with Nature and Tradition. Get Married in Sicily). Sicily is an ancient land, whose features have been hewn through millennia of history. A complex mixture of different cultures that live side by side in perfect harmony, shaping their surrounding environment into a fascinating ensemble. All of this you will be able to see, reflected in this region vivid colours and to taste, in its world-famous cuisine. Love, as always, is in the air: you will breath and feel it in the richness of the scenery, in its ancient buildings and vast breath-taking landscapes. If you are lucky enough to get married in a venue with a terrace overlook the sea, you will be forgiven for thinking you might actually be dreaming.
With this premise, here’s my personal selection of the top 5 wedding venues in Sicily.
Wedding venues in Sicily
The VOI Grand Hotel Mazzarò Sea Palace is an exclusive five star establishment, ideally positioned between rocky formations covered in lush vegetation on one side and the Mazzarò Bay, with its deep cobalt-blue sea, on the other. This is an ancient location, that will dazzle your senses and charm you with its stunning beauty. The VOI Grand Hotel Mazzarò Sea Palace is considered one of the top wedding venues worldwide.
The VOI Grand Hotel Atlantis Bay is a true gem and you will find it in Taormina. The city with its Mediterranean charm and its shining blue sea will provide the perfect location for an unforgettable wedding reception. The VOI Grand Hotel Atlantis Bay’s most unique feature is that it was built to resemble an old fishing village, clinging to a rock sloping down into the sea. This unique position has caused to be built as a succession of terraces that go all the way down to the water. You will be hard put to try and find a more privileged position or a more impressive scenery. This location will definitely add to the charm and atmosphere of your wedding reception.
The Therasia Resort stands on the beautiful island of Vulcano and it provides a relaxing and exclusive environment. This isn’t simply one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Sicily: I believe it is among the most amazing ones in the whole of Italy. The Therasia Resort boasts a unique view over the Aeolian Islands and an unmistakeably Mediterranean vibe, thanks in no small measure to its characteristic architecture. The building is made of volcanic rock and cedar and olive wood, and each detail sits in seamless harmony with the colours of the surrounding natural scenery,. There is a beautiful garden, filled with typical local plants, as well as multiple terraces and two infinity pools that will set off your wedding reception admirably.
La Settima Luna Hotel
La Settima Luna Hotel is located on a charming bay, in the fishing village of Canneto, on the isle of Lipary. The characteristic Liberty architecture of the building is somewhat in contrast with the XVI century Basilica Romana Minore of San Cristoforo and with the old village houses. Canneto, in its turn, seems to lie, resting softly along the white pumice beaches – a unique feature of these parts – abandoning itself to the glistening embrace of the sea. The hotel’s stunning terraces and pool make it the ideal venue for a memorable wedding reception.
Abbazia Santa Anastasia
This venue is quite different from the others in this list. Its style is remarkably more rustic, and yet every detail has been thoroughly thought through. This ancient abbey is a charming and elegant venue in the heart of the Madonie mountain range and, as a wedding location, it boasts over 1100 acres’ worth of grounds and a breath-taking view from its pool terrace. Rural charm with a sophisticated touch: this is the unique quality of this venue, which sits perfectly in its location, without clashing with the natural environment. It is also possible to celebrate the catholic rite of marriage in the abbey’s very own chapel.
