ROMANTIC ITALIAN CITIES

“Love built on false feelings is like a smoke that dissolves with the first blow of the wind, while true love represents a rock which cannot be destroyed by a storm”.

Well, my dear friends, the rock represents strength, positive energy and so, what keeps us from enjoying a romantic weekend in of the Italian towns perched on a rock or carved in stone?

I selected for you 5 beautiful romantic Italian cities the power of which is hidden in their rocky landscapes.

A magic place for proposing to her? A location for celebrating an unforgettable wedding or the proper setting for your anniversary party? Each of these destinations is worth your journey!

Romantic Italian Cities

We start, of course, with the Stones of Matera introducing one of the most ancient inhabited areas in the world with its incomparable historic center carved into the rock amidst caves and labyrinths.

After crossing the newest and the most modern parts of the city you just need to walk around the corner in order to dive in the past indefinitely. You will be truly impressed and fascinated by the beauty, the fusion of history and nature, hardly being able to integrate all your surroundings with time and space. Matera is truly unique and deserves to be discovered in each case, however, with a heart filled with love it really turns into a magic city.

Located in the Province of Viterbo, Civita’ di Bagnoregio, representing one of the most beautiful Italian villages, is also worth your visit.

The town, standing on a tuff hill, is reached only through a pedestrian bridge. The beauty of the town can be discerned at a glance in the distance and although the bridge seems a bit scary we recommend to cross it holding hands in order to get lost among the narrow streets, stone houses or sun-filled squares. We advise you to pay a visit to Bagnoregio at the first opportunity since the town is likely to disappear due to the continuous downstream erosion of two torrents. It would be a pity!

Continuing the theme of tuff, I would suggest visiting a royal and elegant city of Pitiglianodominating a green Tuscan valley from above the hill.

The entire town offers a magic combination of rocks and nature, art and history. It is recommended to visit the Orsini Palace and the beautiful Cathedral, but above all else, the Ghetto zone – indeed, the city is also known as ‘little Jerusalem’ due to the presence of a historic Jewish community. Among the narrow streets you will find numerous natural stone cellars where you can taste good Tuscan wines and toast your love.

A totally different landscape is awaiting you in Polignano a Mare, located in the Puglia Region, where a high rocky outcrop, carved by wind and sea, flows into the blue waters of the Adriatic Sea, offering truly wonderful views!

Polignano is genuinely beautiful with its colors, peaceful and radiant atmosphere, amiable inhabitants, energy released by the sun, the sea and the stone, striking in the depths of one’s soul and impelling any visitor to come back again and again. This is one of those places I recommend you for a dream wedding!

And what do you think about a picturesque village with narrow colored houses on a dark rock facing the Ligurian Sea? Manarola, one of the five villages of Cinque Terre (‘Five Lands’).

The surrounding landscape filled with olive trees standing on rocky hills help to create a contrast between the indigo sea waters, the green hills, the blue sky and little colored houses that leave you breathless. These zones are famous for producing excellent oil and acclaimed passito wine, the Sciacchetra’, that you are urged to taste, or just to use as your wedding favors for you guests.
