Dear friends, our journey through the wonderful world of weddings has taken us to several magical places, allowing us to explore a variety of styles. Today I’m going to introduce to you one of my favourite wedding themes for 2017, one that inspires me and really tickles my imagination: a Mediterranean Wedding.

Since the beginning wedding season, I have been dedicating this column to the in-depth analysis of individual details that you will need to take care of when planning your wedding reception, such as announcements and menu design. Today I will take a step back and lock at the whole reception planning. Because the best results are achieved when each individual decorative element is in perfect harmony with the entire ensemble.

Planning a Mediterranean wedding, particularly if, like me, you don’t live by the sea, is a unique opportunity to create memories that will stay with you for the rest of your life. Years later, looking at your wedding photographs, you will be transported back to that magical world of vivid colours and exotic scents.

Mediterranean landscapes, such as those you will find in Southern Italy, can be extremely inspiring to a wedding planner when it comes to picking themes and decor options. Allow your own creativity to be ignited by the sparkling beauty of the Mediterranean location of your choice, by its unique scents, colours and distinctive flavours, and plan your perfect Mediterranean wedding.

You want your wedding reception to have an authentic vibe, to be visually minimalistic and infused with a delicate and ethereal beauty. That’s the real magic of a Mediterranean wedding: it will grant you the luxury of elegant simplicity.

Plan your decor around simple and yet characteristic elements such as olive oil, citrus fruit and wine. Rely on nature’s colours to give your reception a boost of positive energy. Let’s look at our options in detail.

Let’s start with your wedding announcements, which in most cases will be the first medium through which your loved ones will receive the good news. Let’s not forget that a Mediterranean Wedding should be about simplicity: pick a few essential elements to convey the type of reception that you have in mind. Olives and citrus fruit will be extremely useful elements of your overall decor: consider using them creatively on your wedding announcements.

BOUQUET

Make your bouquet green and leafy and try a few different combinations. Olive branches and white flowers, for instance, make a beautiful bouquet, simple and elegant: just what your Mediterranean wedding needs.

When planning your Mediterranean wedding reception, the tableau de mariage is one of the first elements you will have to decide on. I have selected three options for you: the first one uses simple corks as supports for your escort cards. This simple idea will add to your Mediterranean vibe. The second idea is not applicable to all wedding venues: you will need a majestic olive tree on which to hang cards with your guests’ names and their assigned tables. You can use simple clothespins. The last idea is my favourite by far and it will change the atmosphere of the whole venue with its vivid colours and distinctive scent: use citrus fruit to support your escort cards.

No Mediterranean wedding is complete without the appropriate menu. Food is a vital part of Mediterranean culture in general and Italian Identity in particular. Choose genuine, local ingredients, creating a rich buffet for cured meats and cheese. Use lemons for decoration and go for a rustic look, planning every detail to achieve simple elegance.

This is my favourite aspect of wedding planning: table setting. There’s an art to decorating tables: each individual element needs to stand out without disrupting the harmony of the whole design. I love wooden imperial tables, which are just perfect for today’s theme. Use olive branches and citrus fruit for your runners: they will give your tables a colourful and rustic look. And don’t forget to have plenty of white candles to warm up the atmosphere. Use one small olive branch to finish off the decor of your set table: it’s a symbol of good luck and prosperity!

Plan the lighting of your wedding venue carefully, making sure that it enhances the atmosphere of your event, particularly after sunset. If possible, use it to highlight olive trees, creating a magical effect. Place crates or citrus fruits in every corner to go for the full Mediterranean effect.

CAKE

What should you use to decorate your Mediterranean wedding cake? You guessed: citrus fruit and olive branches!
