Weddings in Italy – Stefania & Davide

Welcome back my dear readers! It is always a pleasure to share this space with you.

September is almost behind us and those summer Weddings in Italy feel like a lifetime ago. There was one, however, that was particularly close to my heart and will stay in my memory for a long time. In today’s post, I’m going to tell you all about it. At a first glance, it may look like your average wedding: beautiful, of course, but nothing special. That’s not the case: this one was special. And what made it special were the people, who really made a difference.

Weddings in Italy – Stefania and Davide

I had the pleasure of meeting Stefania and Davide on a rainy June evening in 2016, during an event I organised at Brian & Barry in Milan. I was very busy on that occasion and my assistants and I only managed to chat briefly to Stefania and Davide. And yet, from the moment I met them, I could feel that they were nice, easy-going people. We exchanged business cards and agreed to meet for coffee in my office, which we did, a week later. Sitting across from me, at my desk, they proceeded to tell me about their dreams and plans for their wedding day. I was instantly captivated by them, by their story and by the way they told it. I could tell immediately that they were interesting, creative people, who wanted their big day to reflect both of their personalities, to “feel like them” to their friends and families. Over weeks and months we got to know each other better and started to understand each other too, as our shared project took shape, revealing itself as the image on a jigsaw puzzle, as each piece found its rightful place.

Weddings in Italy

Stefania and Davide met online, as many couples do nowadays. Their love story started in a Badoo chat, and it felt like their lives, that had been running on parallel tracks up until that point, had independently decided that it was time to cross each other’s path. That’s when everything changed and evolved, so that “you” and “me” gradually became “us”. After sharing years of laughter and tears, of happy moments and hardships and the concerns of everyday life together, they finally decided to take the big step and pledge eternal love to each other in front of their loved ones. Stefania and Davide are two amazing, kind-hearted people, with whom it is a pleasure to work, chat and laugh over a glass of wine.

Next thing we knew, June 24th was upon us. It was a glorious, sunny day, one of the hottest I can remember. We were at the Sartirana Castle, home of Fondazione Sartirana Arte, in Lomellina. This Viscount castle was our chosen location, set to host a grandiose reception. It is a charming mansion with a well-tended park full of ancient trees: the perfect setting to put all of our creative ideas into practice. Stefania looked stunning in her white dress. She was also tense and nervous, she couldn’t wait to walk up the aisle to her beloved Davide. The church was close enough to the castle for her to walk. The floral arrangement, decorating the simple and yet elegant architecture, was composed of white hortensias and gypsophila in wicker baskets, alternating with glass cylinders containing floating candles. The decor was essential and stylish, just like the bride and groom.

It was a sultry day and, after the religious celebration, my staff and I directed the guests towards the castle for refreshments. We offered them a tasty aperitivo in the shade of the tall trees of the park. Everyone cheered and applauded as Stefania and Davide made their grand entrance as husband and wife, dancing on a light and funny tune. Afterwards, the buffet was officially open. We had contracted the renowned Papillon Milano 1990 catering and the result did not disappoint: a sumptuous aperitivo, with a rich and varied offer of finger-food that was as beautiful as it was tasty. The actual dinner was hosted in one of the castle halls and the traditional menu included three courses, served by impeccable and efficient staff. I designed the hall decor together with my team at Matrimoni d’Autore (the best in organizing Weddings in Italy), following the bride and groom’s directives. Ecru, light pink and white tulle made up the delicate palette for the tableware and decor and the candle holders were vintage wine bottles. Every detail had been chiselled to perfection, from the imperial tables to the invitations, from the tableau de mariage to the printed menus, from the wedding favours to the traditional confetti and right up to the final thanks. They had selected a white cake, which they cut in the main court of the castle, where the after-dinner party was hosted. There was drinking and dancing and then the bride and groom reached the dance floor, which was the cue for the dj to play Kiah Victoria’s cover of John Legend’s “All of Me”. The guests simply thought that the bride and groom were set to open the dances. What they didn’t expect was for the music to abruptly change to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling” and for Stefania and Davide to go into a fun dance that had everyone in the house clapping and cheering. And then, the real party started: the ladies ditched their high heels to dance barefoot and glasses were clinked under the starry sky well into the small hours.
